Shaw's is where Schaumburg goes when the occasion calls for white tablecloths and something that arrived on ice. The draw is the raw bar - oysters listed by origin, crab, shellfish towers - backed by a kitchen that handles both the classics and the sushi side of the menu with more care than the suburb strictly requires.

The room is styled after a mid-century supper club, all dark wood and low light, and it carries the atmosphere well enough that a weeknight dinner feels deliberate. There is a separate, livelier bar side if you want the oysters without the full sit-down.

It is not cheap, and it is not trying to be. Price it as a celebration dinner, a client dinner, or the night you have been meaning to book for a month. Live music runs on some evenings, which shifts the mood noticeably - worth asking about when you reserve, in either direction.

Reservations are strongly advised on Fridays and Saturdays.
