Schaumburg has a genuinely competitive Indian restaurant scene, and Gaylord has held its place in it by doing the North Indian repertoire properly rather than chasing trends. Tandoor breads and kebabs, slow-cooked curries, and a vegetarian section substantial enough that a vegetarian table never feels like it is ordering around the menu.

The lunch buffet is the entry point most people use and the best-value way to work out what you like - go once, note what you want more of, then order it properly at dinner. Spice levels are made to order; ask and they will take you seriously in either direction.

The room on Mall Drive is comfortable and quiet enough for a family dinner or a group, and it is close enough to Woodfield to work as the end of a shopping afternoon without being part of the mall itself.

Good for: vegetarians, large tables, and anyone who has been eating the same three curries for a decade and wants a wider menu to argue over.
