About this place

Hacienda Calavera trades on atmosphere as much as on the kitchen. The room is done out in Day of the Dead color and imagery - skulls, marigold tones, a lot of it - and the effect is closer to a night out than a quiet dinner. That is worth knowing before you book: it is a good room for a group, a birthday or a Friday, and a less obvious one for a quiet conversation.

The menu covers the familiar territory of a full-service Mexican restaurant, with the bar doing heavy lifting on margaritas and tequila. Weekends run louder and later than midweek.

It sits on South Roselle Road, which puts it in easy reach of most of central Schaumburg without needing to go near Woodfield. Parking is on site.

Because it is independent and relatively new to the strip, hours and menu move around more than they do at the chains - a phone call before a large booking saves disappointment.
